The Universe by LIFE

by Alisa Furoyama | January 12, 2013

These are always my favorite to find hiding at thrift stores. The Universe by LIFE was published in 1962. It's full of beautiful photographs and illustrations. So much so that I was inspired to sketch out some for myself.

"THE ORBIT OF VENUS is in the zone that might sustain life. This
sequence shows it assuming crescent form and appearing to grow
as it swing earthward from the other side of the sun."

"A CRESCENT SATURN, its rings edge on, looms above the horizon
of Titan, largest of its satellites. The sky is blue because Titan has an
atmosphere; it is the only moon in our solar system known to have one."

Bergamini, David. The Universe Canada: Rhett Austell, 1962.
