Mister Michelle is the pseudonym of Seattle-based painter Michelle Robinson. A self-taught artist, Michelle's current body of work explores form as architectural structures. Her unique aesthetic is guided by symmetry and features clean lines and formal parallels. Her intricate and minimal compositions emulate monuments and statues. Her work conveys the human condition through her compositional choices and use of color. Through a disciplined application of gold leaf, she references the noble metal’s properties of purity and resilience. These alchemical associations heighten the sense of immortality already exuding from these stoic structures, reminding the viewer of their own mortality.
Mr. Michelle will be debuting a new series of work titled ‘Palingenesia,' exploring the concepts of rebirth and re-creation using techniques somewhat different from her other recent works, utilizing watercolor and more rounded shapes. The exhibition opens February 29th, and runs through March.
"Color ultimately is the heart and soul of each piece, making it the most important aspect of my work.”
-Mister Michelle
