Daisuke Anayama Ko-Durama, Black
$418
Daisuke Anayama's Daruma sculpture is based on the traditional Japanese Daruma doll used for good luck. This Daruma is created through a unique firing process in which it is buried in a cylindrical ceramic chamber filled with a large amount of rice husks. As the husks burn, they release a high concentration of carbon, resulting in its distinctive deep black surface. "This Daruma embodies the spirit of “Fueki Ryūkō—the balance between timeless tradition and evolving modernity. Its universal form and the wide black hue of the pottery give it a presence that transcends time while resonating with contemporary aesthetics. By merging traditional techniques with a modern sensibility, I have crafted a piece that conveys quiet strength within stillness." - Daisuke Anayama ABOUT THE ARTIST Daisuke Anayama lives in Japan creating ceramic works that explore expressions that connect the past and present, nature and human activities, aiming to bring out essential beauty.
