December 20 - 21
This year’s Ceramics Showcase arrives in a more intimate format, gathering a focused selection of handmade work from artists around the world. The weekend highlights two local ceramicists and longtime friends of the shop, each offering a distinct approach to form, material and daily ritual.
Nicole Gilmore, an artist and stylist and an integral part of our Glasswing team, approaches clay through the lens of landscape design and regenerative agriculture. Her pieces emerge from an investigation into structure and shadow, often shaped to the threshold of fragility before firing. Nicole works with clay as a full cycle material, reclaiming and reinventing it as she explores proportion, negative space and the shifting link between form and function.
Kate Norris of Mirage Studio brings a complementary perspective rooted in sculptural experimentation. Her vessels blend wheel throwing with hand building, resulting in forms that feel essential and pared back. Influenced by her years in the arts, environmental work and fashion, Kate creates objects that hold a clear presence while remaining grounded in everyday use.
Alongside these focused presentations, the showcase includes work from our current ceramic roster, including Seya, Daisuke Anayama, and George Nakamura to name a few. Together they form a compact but varied snapshot of contemporary ceramics and the different ways makers explore utility, sculpture and surface.
Nicole and Kate will be joining us in-store through the weekend. We welcome you to stop by, meet the artists and explore pieces that speak to both daily rituals and seasonal gifting.
