Opening Event Reception
with Postalco Founders, Mike & Yuri Abelson
Saturday, Feb 8: 11 - 6 pm
Postalco designs objects and clothing for a well-considered life. The collection is inspired by the every day, the objects that we find ourselves interacting with the most. Created with the human experience in mind, there's a focus on form and function always with a natural, simplistic beauty. Postalco pieces encourage a new kind of connection with an object. It's a type of relationship, considering the thing to be “collaborator” in our life instead of approaching items with a disposable mindset.
The Postalco collection has been designed and produced in Japan for over 20 years and has grown beyond only offering office goods. These items are meant to be used frequently and with intention and the collection includes though not limited to: Clothing, Rainwear, Pens, Key Holders, Bags, Paper Goods, and others. Each piece in the collection has a commitment in showcasing and highlighting Japanese craft.
The Postalco Snap Pad collection is a modular notebook system that can accommodate everyone's writing needs. Featured in this exhibition are special edition of Snap Pads wrapped in vintage Kasuri fabric. Created in very limited quantities due to the extremely limited fabric supply. The Japanese word Kasuri is a term for a specific type of fabric, one woven with fibers dyed specifically to create a patterned finish. The warp and weft threads are resist-dyed, accomplished by tightly wrapping sections of the yarns with thread to protect them from the dye. When woven together, the undyed areas interlace to form patterns.
