The Madagascar Palm (Pachypodium lamerei) is a distinctive succulent native to Madagascar. Despite its name, it's not a true palm but rather belongs to the Apocynaceae family. Its spiky, bottle-shaped trunk and tufted leaves are adapted to store water, enabling it to thrive in arid environments, making it a sought-after ornamental plant in various landscapes. LIGHT Bright light, direct or indirect is best. WATER Summer is the time to water heavily. Most species are deciduous and lose their leaves in winter. Named after its deer-like antlers, the Staghorn fern is one of the easiest ferns to grow. Plants have two types of fronds: basal and fertile. The basal fronds are sterile and anchor the plant against trees. They also protect the plants roots. The fertile fronds bear spores for reproduction. Because these plants often grow naturally on trees or rocks, they make great options for mounted plant projects. LIGHT: Bright filtered light or direct morning sun. WATER: Water when top 20% of soil is dry. Keep soil drier in winter. Green fronds droop from under-watering and drop from over-watering. Plants like humidity, but avoid water sitting on leaves as it may cause powdery mildew. TEMPERATURE: Ideal range is 60-80 degrees. A stalking plant that is apart of the succulent family. The bush has thick succulent brown stems with small tender green leaves that resemble a diminutive jade plant. They thrive in bright light in a warm, draft free room. Elephant bush is aptly named because in the wild, the plant may get 6 to 20 feet tall where it is a favorite food of elephants. As an indoor plant, it is much more likely to remain just a few feet tall. LIGHT: Full to part sun WATER: Allow top 50% of soil to dry between waterings. Shriveled leaves indicate the plant needs more water. Water more often during the active growing season, less often in dormancy. TEMPERATURE: An ideal range is 60-80 degrees. Made in Tokushima, Japan by master papermakers, the cover has a great feel and develops a sheen with use. Includes a pen loop for spur of the moment memo writing. Fits A6 size books or calendars 4.1” x 5.8” (105mm x 148mm). Material In the Paper Kitchen Fujimori-san’s paper factory is like a large kitchen. Bark fiber strips are soaked in water and laid out on tables for trimming. The paper makers wear kitchen aprons and hats. These handmade papers use much longer fibers than standard machine made papers. Polishing each sheet by hand with the famously smooth fresh Tsubaki leaf (Japanese camelia) finishes the unique texture. Kozo (Mulberry) bark fibers are the strongest of the washi fibers and is the main ingredient in Farmer’s Felt. It is grown as a sustainable farm crop, regenerating every year.
