Daisuke Anayama Ko-Daruma, Brown
$418
Daisuke Anayama's Daruma sculpture is based on the traditional Japanese Daruma doll used for good luck. The sculpture is Anayama's expression of the spirit of resilience and perseverance. This piece is fired without a kiln, using branches and wood gathered from the mountains and burned in an open field. The black and gray hues are not artificially applied but are natural marks left by the ash and soot from the burning wood.Open-fire firing is an ancient and primitive technique that has been passed down through generations. This method captures the raw dialogue between fire and earth. The way the wood burns, the direction of the wind, and the movement of the ash—all these natural elements come together to create a one-of-a-kind expression. Daisuke Anayama Ko-Durama, Black
$418
Daisuke Anayama's Daruma sculpture is based on the traditional Japanese Daruma doll used for good luck. This Daruma is created through a unique firing process in which it is buried in a cylindrical ceramic chamber filled with a large amount of rice husks. As the husks burn, they release a high concentration of carbon, resulting in its distinctive deep black surface. "This Daruma embodies the spirit of “Fueki Ryūkō—the balance between timeless tradition and evolving modernity. Its universal form and the wide black hue of the pottery give it a presence that transcends time while resonating with contemporary aesthetics. By merging traditional techniques with a modern sensibility, I have crafted a piece that conveys quiet strength within stillness." - Daisuke Anayama ABOUT THE ARTIST Daisuke Anayama lives in Japan creating ceramic works that explore expressions that connect the past and present, nature and human activities, aiming to bring out essential beauty.
