"Coffee" Aurum Goods Natural Dyeing Workshop

Archived Workshop: Coffee has been brewed and enjoyed for more than five centuries. It also proves to be a powerful dyeing agent that is not only all natural but also aromatic in the process. Our upcoming workshop focuses on three dyeing techniques. Explore the history and art of dyeing with us. Each participant will have the opportunity to experiment dyeing multiple items as well as leave with the skills to repeat the process at home. This is a hands-on workshop so please come dressed appropriately. This workshop will utilize colors derived from Turmeric and Rose to create one-of-a-kind pieces on natural fabrics. Explore the history and art of dyeing with us. Each participant will leave with multiple items in an array of natural colors and shapes and the skills to repeat the process at home. This is a hand-on workshop so please come dressed appropriately. PREORDER FOR MARCH 20, 2026 The vernal equinox marks the moment when winter loosens its hold and the season begins its slow shift toward spring. Just before this event, a thin waxing crescent moon will appear low in the western sky beside bright Venus, the evening planet long associated with love and beauty. Inspired by this celestial pairing, we created a seasonal centerpiece draped in soft red and blush tones. Highlighting the first blossoms of the season and the light beginning to linger a little longer each evening. In collaboration with Jess Gring of Odd Flowers, this floral arrangement is available to preorder for local Seattle delivery or in-store pickup at Glasswing on Friday, March 20th. A Taste of Burundi, Stamp Act Coffee Tasting Workshop

In partnership with local coffee roasters, Stamp Act Coffee we are hosting a coffee tasting event featuring eight Burundian coffees. All proceeds from this event will support Long Miles’ reforestation project, “Trees for Kibiria.” On the nose and on the tongue, the coffee blushes bright with notes of raspberry accented with citrus. Its well-balanced, velvety body carries hints of herb and chocolate straight through to its distinctive lingering floral finish. The complex flavor profile distinguishes Burundi coffee from other African coffees.   Course Includes:Burundi coffee tasting, 8 varieties12 oz. Learn the history of this technique as applied to fibers and textiles through this hands-on workshop. Capturing Color from Food Waste, Natural Dyeing Workshop with Maggie Pate

Archived Workshop: Natural dyeing has been a steady tradition for almost all cultures. However, within recent years with the rise of synthetic dyes, the art of natural dyeing has been fading from active practice. Learn to connect to our natural world and embrace colors created from their natural essence.   This is a 3-hour hands-on workshop will give an overview of how to dye fibers naturally from food waste highlighting the use of avocado pits and onion skins. Ceramic Hand-Building Workshop with Alex Roby

Clay has a way of slowing time. It asks for attention, patience, and a willingness to let your hands lead. In this introductory workshop, Seattle ceramicist Alex Roby will guide participants through foundational hand building techniques, creating functional forms through coiling and pinching. Designed for beginners, the class emphasizes process over perfection and offers an approachable introduction to working with clay in a relaxed, communal setting. Throughout the afternoon, each participant will create two ceramic pieces while learning how simple forms are built, refined, and prepared for firing. Midway through the workshop, we’ll pause for tea break with Kwento Tea before returning to finish our work.   additional information All materials are provided. Finished ceramics will be fired off site and available for pickup at Glasswing several weeks after the workshop. Concrete Planter Workshop, Stone and Water

Archived Workshop: Concrete is a fluid, versatile, sturdy material, able to take on the shape and texture of whatever mold or formwork it's cast into. In this workshop, architect and gardener Fiona Booth will demonstrate the steps involved in making custom lightweight planters out of concrete. CLASS DETAILS Part I — The first chapter of this hands-on workshop is an introduction to working with concrete and an overview of the process of creating the concrete castings. Each participant will go through steps of prepping and setting 2 different vessels. The class runs for approximately 1 hour.Part 2 — After the vessels have completely set, you can pick up your vessel at your convenience. Dyed & Dined Dinner, Marseille

Archived Event: The "Dyed & Dined" Dinner is a collaboration between our neighbors at Marseille and Tennessee textile artist, Maggie Pate. This event is inspired by the idea of sustainable cooking, to use all of an ingredient and to see the potential of food waste. Chef, Eli Dahlin has created a five-course menu inspired by in-season, local ingredients. The goal of each dish is to emphasize the use of an ingredient in its entirety, illustrated in elements like carrot top pesto, apple skin sorbet, and charred leek tops. To showcase another use of food waste, we will have textiles accompanying each dish that has been dyed naturally. The place setting will showcase colors created from the same ingredients highlighted in each recipe. Greenhouse Plant Swap

On Saturday, August 25th, we are hosting our first seasonal Plant Swap. This event is open to all plant enthusiasts. Come by, hang out, trade plants, cuttings, and general plant knowledge. Tickets are $5 and 100% of proceeds from this event will benefit the Volunteer Park Conservatory.   Glasswing’s Plant Director, Tassy de Give will host a shortened version of her Houseplants 101 class that will give an overview of proper care and additionally take any Q&A based off of the plants that are available to swap. This conversation will be available live on our Instagram for those not able to join in-person that day.   Participants are encouraged to bring plants to contribute to the swap but this is an inclusive event; everyone is welcome to the swap! Glasswing will provide extra clippings to the party to ensure that no one leaves empty-handed.   We have 25 mini tillandsias for the first 25 people who RSVP. Intro to Bonsai Workshop

Join us for a special exploration of nature and intentionality at our Bonsai Workshop series. Taught by bonsai expert Robert Cho, this is a two-hour introduction to the art and care of bonsai. The first hour covers a brief history of the practice, its origins, the fundamentals of styling, and the essential care techniques to help your tree thrive. In the second hour, you will pot and style your own five to six year old outdoor Juniper in a ceramic bonsai container, learning hands-on as you work. At the end of class, you will take home your newly planted tree along with the knowledge to nurture it for years to come.   Instructor: Robert Cho With more than three decades of experience, Robert Cho is recognized for his refined approach to bonsai, shaped by years of study and practice in Asia and North America. Trained in Lingnan and Jiangsu traditions with influences from Beijing and Min styles, he brings a rare combination of technical skill and artistic vision to his teaching.
